What is a dating scam?
A dating scam is when someone pretends to be genuine, builds trust quickly, and then tries to get money, personal information, or intimate content from you.
What are the biggest red flags?
- Asking for money, gift cards, crypto, or “fees” to meet/verify.
- Claiming to be overseas or having urgent emergencies that require money.
- Refusing video calls or making excuses not to meet.
- Pushing you off the app quickly and isolating you from friends/family.
- Asking for passwords, IDs, or banking information.
What should I do if I suspect a scam?
- Stop communicating and block the person.
- Report the profile to Memeistry via Support.
- If money was sent, contact your bank/payment provider quickly.
- Consider reporting via Scamwatch (ACCC) to help track scam trends.
Do I have to log in to contact support?
